Cybersecurity in 2026

by | Mar 23, 2026 | IT in Education, Technology

Why I Believe Resilience Will Define the Organisations That Survive

As we move deeper into 2026, one thing is clear to me: Cybersecurity is no longer an IT issue. It is a leadership issue.

At Bitnet Solutions, we work closely with schools, academies, and small to medium-sized businesses across the UK. And across every conversation I’m having with headteachers, CFOs, and business owners, the theme is the same:

“Are we truly prepared?”

The threat landscape has fundamentally changed.

AI Has Changed the Game

We’re now seeing AI-generated phishing emails that are almost indistinguishable from genuine correspondence. Deepfake voice impersonation is being used to pressure finance teams into approving payments. Machine identities are quietly becoming new attack vectors.

The uncomfortable truth? Traditional security checks are no longer enough.

That’s why we’ve invested heavily in building our own 24/7 Security Operations Centre combining Microsoft’s AI-driven tools with experienced human analysts. Technology detects. People interpret. Together, they respond.

Security today must be proactive, not reactive.

Ransomware Is Now an Industry

Ransomware groups operate like businesses. They have negotiation scripts. Help desks. Escalation processes.

For a school, that could mean safeguarding data exposure.

For an SME, that could mean halted operations and reputational damage overnight.

Resilience now depends on preparation:

  • Offline backup strategies
  • Recovery rehearsals
  • Identity governance
  • Zero-trust access controls
  • Continuous monitoring

We don’t wait for incidents. We prepare for them.

The Overlooked Risk: Identity

As more organisations migrate to the cloud, identities both human and machine have become the new perimeter.

And in many cases, that perimeter is porous.

Through Microsoft Entra, Defender, Sentinel, and Purview, we help organisations build identity-first security frameworks that reduce breach risk dramatically.

But tools alone aren’t the solution.

Security must be woven into culture. Into processes. Into leadership decision-making.

Burnout Is a Business Risk

One issue I don’t see discussed enough is alert fatigue.

Even skilled IT teams can become overwhelmed by constant notifications and false positives. When that happens, genuine threats can slip through.

That’s why we built a SOC model that balances automation with human oversight  ensuring our clients aren’t relying on overstretched internal teams alone.

Cybersecurity isn’t just about systems.

It’s about sustainability.

Bitnet Solution MD, Ashraf Kala’s View: 2026 Is the Year of Accountability

Boards and leadership teams can no longer delegate cybersecurity entirely to “the IT team.”

If your organisation depends on digital systems and today, all of them do then security is a strategic pillar of business continuity.

The organisations that will thrive are those that:

  • Rehearse incident response
  • Demand visibility over their security posture
  • Invest in people, not just software
  • Treat cybersecurity as an operational discipline

At Bitnet Solutions, our role is simple:

To make enterprise-grade Microsoft security accessible, practical, and tailored especially for education providers and growing businesses that don’t have in-house security departments.

Because resilience shouldn’t be reserved for large corporations.

It should be standard.

If you’re unsure whether your organisation is truly 2026-ready, let’s have a conversation.

Cyber threats are evolving.

So must we.

Best regards,

Ashraf KalaManaging Director, Bitnet Solutions
